This Water Feature is located in front of the Handyman Centre & shops at Abbey End.   Based on one located at Bracknell near Windsor, it was manufactured in Germany at the start of the 21st century.

It is on the site of the ill-fated   Globe Hotel that was hit by a landmine in the second world war with some loss of life.   It is near the memorial   Clock Tower   that was built by English craftsmen in the first decade of the 20th century.

In the press, it was called the 'Groovy' ball project.   It created much controversy about its artistic merit, its cost, and its vulnerability to vandalism.

Originally, a Geographic Sculpture that showed the location of all Kenilworths around the globe.   When mistakes were found,   it was turned into a smooth ball   with all the Kenilworths wiped from its surface.   There are more than a dozen Kenilworths across the world.

Passers-by, of all ages, can push this ton of granite sphere in any direction with a little effort, as it is supported by the water pressure of the fountain beneath.   It then continues to spin, covered by a film of water which gives it a high sheen.
Complex physics and precision engineering are involved.
When in winter the water flow is turned off, the granite ball becomes immovable and the surface dry.
Such floating granite ball fountains are found around the world.
